Update to Company Statement – E. Wiltshire & Son (Torquay) Ltd
Further to the company statement issued in mid-February regarding the planned and orderly closure of E. Wiltshire & Son (Torquay) Ltd, which outlined the intention to conclude operations at Walls Hill Quarry on 22nd May 2026, I would like to provide an important update.
The past few months have been a challenging time for the team at Wiltshire’s. Throughout this period, their professionalism, commitment and determination to ensure that the wind-down of the business is managed responsibly and in the correct way has been truly outstanding. I would like to personally thank every member of the team for the way they have conducted themselves during this time.
I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to our customers and suppliers. The messages of support we have received since the announcement have been overwhelming, and we are extremely grateful for the kindness shown to the business and our team.
Since announcing the closure, I have received a high level of interest from several companies who have expressed an interest in independently operating the ready-mixed concrete and loose aggregates part of the operation from Walls Hill Quarry following the closure of Wiltshire’s. Over the coming months, I will be working with a group of potential operators to explore these opportunities and identify a new independent provider to continue this part of the operation.
To allow sufficient time to complete the necessary discussions, the closure of the ready-mixed concrete plant and loose aggregates operation will be delayed beyond the previously announced date.
Our priority is to ensure that customers experience minimal interruption to the supply of materials. Wiltshire’s will therefore continue to operate the concrete plant and loose aggregates operation during this interim period.
As part of the proposed arrangements, the new provider will be required to continue the production of hardstone concrete (Torbay Mix) and Wiltshire’s Yellow Sand.
During this interim period, Wiltshire’s will continue to supply a range of materials and services to the local market,
• Loose sands, including Wiltshire’s Yellow Sand for collection
• Loose aggregates for collection
• Ready-mixed concrete, ready-mixed granite (Torbay Mix) and screed
• A selection of commercial flags, kerbs for reinstatement
• Mini-mix and ready-mixed concrete delivery service
This arrangement will help ensure that the long-standing supply of essential construction materials from Walls Hill Quarry continues to serve the local building industry.
Once we are in a position to formally confirm the new operator, a further update will be issued confirming the successful provider, the handover date, and details of the transition.
In the interim, credit accounts will remain open, and customers will continue to be able to trade on their existing credit terms.
The collection of loose aggregates and ready-mixed concrete will continue within our normal operating hours:
Monday to Friday: 7:30am – 4:00pm
Saturday mornings: Subject to demand. Customers wishing to collect materials or arrange deliveries on Saturdays are asked to contact the sales office in advance to book their collection slot.
With stocks of our landscaping supplies now largely exhausted, our final day for scheduled crane off-load deliveries will be Friday 8th May 2026. If you require any materials delivered prior to this date, please contact the sales office. This part of the business will then close as previously announced.
