About

Serving the building industry since 1916

Leonard Wiltshire’s life was sadly cut short when he passed away in 1926 leaving the newly established
business to his wife, Eliza Wiltshire. Determined to succeed, our great grandmother took over the reins of the business.

Eliza had already been actively involved in the business with her husband and was very aware of the ever increasing demand for building materials. She identified an opportunityin the market place and began manufacturing and supplying concrete blocks made from the raw material they quarried in Babbacombe.

Such was the success of their concrete blocks, a range of pre-cast concrete products, including paving slabs soon began being manufactured at the quarry.

During the 1930s my grandfather, Jack Wiltshire, took over the day to day running of the business from his mother, Eliza. The company then changed its name from ‘Wiltshires’ and became ‘E Wiltshire & Son Ltd’, which we still use today.

Jack began investing heavily in the business and brought in the most modern machinery available at that time to increase productionand improve the quality of ourconcrete products.

In the 1940s and 50s demand for building materials was at an all time high, so a ready mixed  concrete plant was introduced, which then reinforced E Wiltshire & Son Ltd as the main supplier of building materials in the area.

In the 1960s my father, Andrew joined the business. At this time demand for concrete blocks regularly outstripped supply, so the decision was made to begin hauling materials in from other local quarries to boost our production output further. With more raw materials being brought in to Babbacombe, production and supply of concrete blocks grew to over 3 million a year.

My brother Sam and I are the fourth generation of Wiltshires who have worked within the business, and along with our father, Andrew, we have substantially grown within the landscaping supplies industry. Today we operate a fleet of delivery vehicles, handling on average around 400 deliveries a week. We bring together a wide and varied range of paving and landscaping products from across the UK and beyond, giving our customers the choice to create something personal and unique.

Now passing into 2016, we have achieved something very special in any businesses history by
becoming a company who has been trading for a century. We are still operating from the same
location where our great grandparents began 100 years ago, and we are proud to continue building on the foundations they laid by supporting the local building industry, valuing each of our
customers and only supplying quality products with excellent service.

Thank you for supporting us.
